Dr. Shaw is a native San Diegan and Helix High graduate. He was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of UCSD, and attended medical school at UC Davis.
His ophthalmology training was at UCSD, where he also performed a research fellowship in glaucoma.
He practiced in Coronado for ten years before moving his practice to the growing Eastlake community.
Dr. Shaw is experienced in treating glaucoma, skilled in the use of BOTOX Cosmetic*, and especially enjoys restoring vision with laser refractive surgery.
Dr. Shaw is the only local ophthalmologist who performs housecalls for the homebound. He writes an informational ophthalmology blog, Eye Didn't Know! His slide show, Out of Focus: Eye Diseases of Famous Artists, is popular among community groups.
He is fluent in Spanish and volunteers monthly at the Flying Samaritans Tecate Eye Clinic, and is a member of Surgical Eye Expeditions. He has taught refractive surgery in China and performed charitable surgery in Mexico and Guyana.
Dr. Shaw is an award-winning photographer, with regular gallery exhibitions at the Ordover Gallery in Solana Beach.
